Kate has been a freelance teacher and performer for almost 10 years. She began her musical studies at the age of five with the piano and although singing took over this first musical love, the piano still plays an important part in her career.

Kate began her vocal studies with respected conductor and composer Patrick Larley before taking up a place at the London College of Music to study voice and piano. She has also studied with Margaret McDonald at The Royal Northern College of Music and under international singing teacher Nicholas Powell.

Kate’s performance career to date has been challenging and varied, encompassing many different musical genres.

Her classical work has included opera and oratorio, recitals and live radio broadcasts.

Kate has also worked as a piano/vocalist and sung in jazz ensembles and folk/rock bands. Although Kate has predominantly been a classical singer she has always loved music theatre and rock music and strives to find a balance in her performing career between these two musical worlds.

As a teacher Kate specialises in teaching non-classical styles with a heavy emphasis on solid classical techniques. Her unique approach gives students a solid understanding of the physiology of the voice and the ability to employ technique in a manner appropriate to their style.
